Science Museums of Athens

Greece is rich in science museums where people can learn about the development of the greek science while looking at the tools used at the past for various scientific purposes such as experiments, measuring etc. There are museums related to the technological achievements of the Greeks as well as to medicine, zoology, palaeontology and mineralogy.

Museum of Mineralogy and Petrology, University of Athens

Some of the most beautiful minerals are hosted in Museum of Mineralogy and Petralogy in Athens. Visitors have a unique chance to see more than 2,500 of unique minerals and rocks exhibited in it. Colorful crystals that are said to be unique in the world and rare metallic, silicate and carbon minerals attract peoples eye who stay breathless when looking at these rare items of the sea or earth bottom. Some of the most impressive exhibits include a spessrtite from Paros island in brown and red colors, an aquamarine crystal, a clinochlore from the Urals, an adamite from Lavrio area, an analcite from Italy, a barite from Serifos island and many other. However, the most outstanding specimentd exposed in the museum are the golden grains, a platinum nugget and the red sphalerite crystals. There are also some specimens and documents concerning the history of the volcanoes of Santorini island and Methana area.
